چکیده

This paper reports the results of an extensive campaign incremental dynamic analyses (IDA) rigid rocking blocks under various loading histories, including real ground/floor motions and shake table testing protocol histories. Several block geometries are investigated considering size slenderness combinations representative building contents, monumental elements, art objects, components critical facilities, other unanchored elements. The spectral response to different histories is firstly assessed by highlighting characteristics seismic input sets. Dimensionless acceleration- velocity-based parameters considered as intensity measures, rotation normalized angle (i.e., dimensionless amplitude) assumed engineering demand parameter. IDA curves evaluated, characterized in terms of: (a) type history, (b) measure, (c) geometry. New information technical insights presented regarding assessment structural nonstructural systems. subjected protocols found be not always compatible with capacities related motions, often producing non-conservative estimations. discrepancy identified between responses associated inputs significantly affected both geometry measure.

Approximate Incremental Dynamic Analysis Using Reduction of Ground Motion Records

Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) requires the analysis of the non-linear response history of a structure for an ensemble of ground motions, each scaled to multiple levels of intensity and selected to cover the entire range of structural response. Recognizing that IDA of practical structures is computationally demanding, an approximate procedure based on the reduction of the number of ground m...

Seismic Behavior of Jacket Offshore Platform Subjected to Near and Far Field Ground Motions

Offshore structures such as jacket platforms have to inevitably be designed against  sever  environmental actions. In seismically active areas these structures also become susceptible to earthquake excitations. Strong ground motions recorded  in recent earthquakes, including the 1995 Kobe, Japan, 1999 Chi-chi, Taiwan and 1999 Kocaeli, Turkey earthquakes, revealed that the dynamic motions in nea...

Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis of Pile Foundation Subjected to Strong Ground Motion Using Fiber Elements

In this paper, pile behavior embedded in layered soil deposits subjected to seismic loadings is analyzed using a nonlinear fiber element for simulation of soil – pile interactions. In the created model, both pile and surrounding soil are modeled using fiber elements in a practical Beam on Nonlinear Winkler Foundation (BNWF) concept. Herein, the features of DRAIN–3DX finite element software are ...
